4.4 Magnitude Quake Jolts Los Angeles AwakeLos Angeles was just violently shaken awoke by a (moderately large) earthquake centered on the Whittier fault line 1.5 miles N. of Pico Rivera. A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook us hard on the second and third floors here in Hollywood near the 101–not very fun! At least for the first 10 seconds anyway, while thinking about Chile and Haiti stuff. The temblor struck at 4:04 PST and lasted about 3 to 15 seconds, depending on who you ask. UPDATE: Nothing appears to be seriously damaged besides the 5 Freeway South near Pico Rivera, where the concrete has shifted by 5 inches or more–seek alternate routes if you’re commuting to work, suckers! Also there doesn’t seem to be a single injury and most folks have gone back to sleep. It was a quick, powerful jolt that could’ve been much worse. Those of you driving vehicles during the shaker felt absolutamente nada, so here’s to a calm SoCal week free of further quakes. Happy Tuesday to you! Latest WTF News On NinjaDude
