Kevin Ray Underwood: First-Hand Experience of A Pyschopathic Killer

kevin ray underwood: killer in the blogosphere

The most disturbing crimes are often those which have no discernible motive. These crimes, murders especially, defy the basic tenants of human behavior. Such a case is seen with the recent heinous murder of ten year-old Jamie Rose Bolin by Kevin Ray Underwood. It is a gruesome murder filled with gruesome details including cannabalism, and when digging for a motive Purcell Police Chief David Tompkins quotes “this appears to have been part of a plan to kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse then dispose of the organs and bones.”

Very gruesome indeed, only this case becomes extremely morbid when you delve further into the details surrounding our confessed suspect, and his once unknown life documented in a blog since September of 2002. Titled “Strange Things are Afoot at the Circle K,” Underwood blogged about his personal life mostly, revealing intimate thoughts and feelings for the world to discover. However, the comments now existing in virtually every entry, were made by readers only after the news on the murder began to spread, igniting stats on his blogger site to over 200,000 hits in 5 days. Just a quick skim through the archives reveals a disturbing first-hand look into the mind of a man with serious emotional and psychological disorder. His mother, Connie Underwood was reached for comment, quoted saying “This is something that I don’t know where it came from, he was always a wonderful boy.” Apparently Connie never took a glance at her sons blog, detailing his crazed spiral to insanity, leading to this gruesome murder.

In addition to his main blog at Google’s “Blogger,” Underwood also had numerous profiles and usernames in cyberspace, including AOL, Yahoo, an Amazon wishlist (2), eBay, a MySpace (2) profile and blog, his UseNet ID (SubSpecies23) plus a number of community forums and other various websites he posted to. Chilling, but true, this comment by a member of SomethingAwful.com summarizes how pathetic and lonely Underwood must have been. Below are random entries posted by Underwood in his blog:

The first blog makes me want to kill people. Speaking of killing people…
Yesterday I was really depressed the entire day. I was so depressed yesterday, it was one off those times where I’m so depressed that my chest hurts. I wonder if that happens to anybody else? When I get really depressed that happens to me. Like usual, the main thing I’ve been getting depressed about lately is my lack of a sex life.

I mean it, I really need a girlfriend. It’s not just depressing anymore, it’s actually starting to have a negative effect on my mental state I think. For example, my fantasies are just getting weirder and weirder. Dangerously weird. If people knew the kinds of things I think about anymore, I’d probably be locked away. No probably about it, I know I would be.

God, I am so depressed. I haven’t been this depressed in a couple of years. I’ve been really depressed for about the last three days now. I wish I had something to do besides just sit at home at the computer all day. I wish I had something to do. I wish I could go out and meet people and stuff. But most of all, I wish I had a girlfriend.

The Missing Link found at last.

This case is yet another reminder of invisible dangers posed to all who use social networking sites, highlighting the reality of psychopathic, socially rejected people residing on your friends list, possibly targeting you without warning. Have a look this MySpace comment the spaz left for what could have been his next victim. Creepy…morbid…disgusting, whatever feeling you get from this strange, and publicly documented case, remember to ask yourself the next time you accept that unkown friend request…is it just to befriend, or possibly to behead? Make the safe call, and remember to keep your psycho-radar up and running.
