Massacre At Virginia Tech

In what’s being called the worst university shooting since 1966 and the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, a gunman armed with bandoleers and a bulletproof vest killed at least 33 and wounded more than 15 other students at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg. NinjaDude has uncovered some information direct from those who witnessed and experienced the madness that went down just hours ago.

UPDATE: The shooter is identified as a South Korean born student who was an English major — Cho Seung-Hui has been identified as the killer.

A man posting by the name of sugad had a brother who lived through the incident. The brother, now identified as Trey Perkins is being regarded as a hero for barricading the door in Norris hall with another student as the gunman attempted re-entry to the classroom where many lay dead and wounded, including his German professor.

This happened in the building right next to the one I was in. Here are a few things I’ve found out from some different people.

One of my friend’s brother was shot. He’s at the hospital in ok condition (I think he was hit in the arm).

One of my other friends was right down the hall from the second shooting. His class heard the gun shots and were able to barricade their door. The gun man actually tried to force his way in, but wasn’t able to. My friend said the guy must have unloaded at least 100 rounds into several class rooms.

Campus was on lockdown until around 12:30, when we were allowed to leave.

This incident comes after the Morva shit in the fall, and two bomb threats in the last two weeks.

That said, I still feel really safe on this campus. I’ve never experienced anything like this year in the 5 years I’ve been here. This is an isolated incident and could have happened anywhere. Why it happened here, I really don’t know.

It feels pretty good to be alive right now.

The university reported shootings at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus, beginning at about 7:15 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, a co-ed residence hall that houses 895 people, and continuing about two hours later at Norris Hall, an engineering building. NBC’s Pete Williams said two law enforcement officials told him the gunman killed himself. They also said the gunman used two 9-mm handguns during the rampage, Williams reported. He said the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was trying to track the weapons.

Most of the dead are believed to be freshman of a single dormitory. Reports indicate the panic that ensued includes students jumping from 3rd and 4th story windows to escape the gunman. This breaking news story will be updated throughout the day.
