Olympian and weed toker Michael Phelphs dodged the wrath of Richland County’s finest and Sheriff Leon Lott’s merciless law-arm after the top cop announced he’d drop the pursuit of dolphin boy from his criminal investigation, which earlier saw 8 students (residents of the drunk pot-party house) arrested and charged with a marijuana crime.
The South Carolina lawman who drew criticism for launching a criminal investigation over the Internet-disseminated photo of the Olympian smoking a bong has announced that he will not pursue charges against Beijing’s golden boy.
He got off lucky, but also lost some endorsement cash while sustaining more damage caused by this whole po-po investigation into the matter, only furthering Michael’s public decry since the Nov. ‘08 party pic surfaced, showing Phelps inhaling pot smoke from a popular German-made ROOR brand bong.
“I’m glad this matter is put to rest,” Phelps said. “For me, it’s all about recognizing that I used bad judgment, and it’s a mistake I won’t make again…one bad decision can really hurt you and the people you care about. I really appreciate the support my family and fans have shown me, and now I will move forward and dive back into the pool, having put this whole thing behind me.”
