Morgan Freeman Almost Died

Shawshank Redemption star Morgan Freeman was reportedly involved in a late Sunday crash, rolling a ‘97 Nissan Maxima in Mississippi while driving with a female passenger, Demaris Meyer. Both are stable and recovering from minor to moderate injuries.

Cops tell us the “Dark Knight” star was in a one car accident around 11:30 PM last night north of the small town of Ruleville. He was airlifted from the accident scene to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn. We’re told alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the wreck. Freeman’s condition is stable with broken bones, and state troopers tell us he was talking at the scene before taken to the hospital.

WHBQ in Memphis is reporting Freeman was on his way home to Charleston when the smash-up happened. Bill Luckett, Freeman’s friend and co-owner of Freeman’s restaurant Madidi, said his buddy was sitting up and talking at the hospital. One source tells TMZ that Freeman has broken several ribs and injured his knee. His female passenger, we’re told, had to be cut out of the car using the Jaws of Life. A source says she’s suffering from bumps and bruises, but is “all in all in good condition.” UPDATE: Freeman’s rep confirms the actor broke his shoulder and arm, but expects him to make a “good” recovery.
