Should Nicole Richie Be Punished With Jail Time?

Nicole Richie’s recent DUI arrest comes in at number two on her record, which should almost certainly land her in the slammer…if all goes well. Should Nicole be punished for her crime? The answer, is a most definite yes. Somewhere it must end, and potential consequences should be hammered into the brain’s of each celebrity and socialite that likes to drink and drive, at least for the sake of saving a human life. The bottom line is, that Nicole Richie should be made an example of what happens to intoxicated drivers in la-la land. Her mugshot should then be placed next to Lane Garrison’s, and used in a nationwide awareness campaign. I bet this would be more effective at curbing drunks than wasting tax money on additional officers, which most cities lack in the first place. So how bad does Nicoles record really look? Let’s find out!

She blew a .12. and a .13 in two separate tests. In California, .08 is considered legally intoxicated. Richie was stopped in her Toyota Corolla after a UCLA police officer observed her blowing a red light and driving over a speed bump at more than 50 miles an hour in an area with a 15 mph speed limit. Richie flunked the field sobriety test — her eyes were watery and bloodshot, and she could not keep her balance. Richie was given three years probation for her 2002 DUI conviction and had her license suspended for one year. Six months later, Richie was arrested for possession of heroin and for driving with a suspended license.

I’d say the system giving out slap on the wrist probation sentences HASN’T worked for Nicole. Clearly, jail time is the definite punishment the judge should impose on her…anything less and I’d call the California legal system bullshit. If Michelle Rodriguez got locked up for her DUI, Nicole should be no different (other than the whole lesbian thing.) Did these folks not learn a bit from Lane Garrison’s tragedy just one week ago?

It could simply be that money and fame can still keep you out of jail. Let’s hope that being nothing more than a professional attention whore isn’t enough to keep Nicole from doing time. Her excuses, lies, and overall “dumbness” are putting innocent, meaningful lives in danger. I wouldn’t be surprised if either Nicole, Paris, or Lohan becomes the next moron to cause death or serious injury in a drug/alcohol related accident.
